For those requiring parking facilities,  Cllr Khan will send out an email closer to the time with further information

BBC Learning in the North.

Through Learning in the North, the BBC aims to work in partnership with local authorities, schools and higher education establishments across the north of England.

In 2009/10, the focus is on creativity in video and audio. There are two main aims:

Learning materials for use in schools

  • created with full editorial involvement of teachers
  • reflecting local need and LA priorities
  • representing the diversity of the North
  • produced to a professional standard

These resources will comprise:

  • original subject-based films and radio packages reflecting curriculum need
  • video and audio sequences in ‘raw’ form for download and re-version
  • ‘creative’ video and audio sequences for exploitation in open – ended ways

Professional development opportunities for teachers (see schedule below)

  • on-going advice and consultation with the BBC
  • specific skill workshops in audio,  video and animation production
  • teacher placements with the BBC

 Contacting teachers and consultants

For each subject area, we would like to make contact with two or three teachers who are interested in using video and audio in creative ways, and in developing their own production skills. One of these colleagues will be invited to a half day subject planning meeting (hosted in Manchester or Leeds), to draw up the brief with the producer and colleagues from other LAs.

All the teachers will be involved in the editorial process from that point and will be invited to production workshops. The BBC will meet the cost of training, supply cover and all expenses.
